Hubby is over 70, had a reminder today to renew his driving, licence, which runs out on 7th October. Should he renew it now, or wait till nearer the time?

if it was me i'd do it now online
Do it now and, if he has a passport, do it online. It only takes a couple of weeks that way.
My brother was told could take up to 10 weeks he will be 70 in September.. so he just went on line on the Monday got his license on the Thursday as quick as that.
I always do mine as soon as I'm within the 90-day limit. The new one will start immediately and be valid until his 73rd birthday, so he's nothing to lose. Doing it online usually results in the replacement arriving almost by return-of-post. If it matters to him, you can't do it online if you want to retain Groups C1 and C2 (large lorries) as they need a medical (I think).

Thanks, will do it now!
Just being pedantic bhg...C1 is 3.5T - 7.5T, C is anything over 7.5T, C+E means you can put a trailer on it (eg artic or wagon and drag). No such thing as a C2.
sdds - thanks. I couldn't be bothered to look it up for the exact groups. I just felt a caveat about larger vehicles was worthwhile.

Longer if the 10 year photo renewal is due.
