A week, including a day off.
Is this person already a mechanic who wants to become an MOT tester?
The MOT testers course lasts around 30 hours with a minimum of 8 hours practical training, a multiple choice test and a practical exam

Hypothetical, having a meaningful discussion who says it is harder to become a mechanic than a vet!

Asking about years in total before being qualified.
A mechanic must have at least 4 years experience before he can become a MOT tester and if he wants more to test more buses and lorries he needs a recognised qualification.
It is much harder to become a doctor - a mechanic doesn't need to spend 4 years at university getting his medical qualifications. A mechanic's apprenticeship takes two years.
To be eligible to takes the MOT tests, there are several grades, you have to have at least four years experience as a mechanic
Takes 5 years to become a vet in the UK.
Five years to do the degree after you have gained the necessary A Levels or equivalent. So the earliest age most people would qualify as a vet is 23, a mechanic can qualify after a two year course starting at 16 and become a MOT test at 22. Of course he has been working full time from the age of 18 (or she, I know there are female mechanics and vets).
Two year apprenticeship for a mechanic, 7 years of study for a vet.
Mechanics don't have to push their arm up a cow's backside.
You're right, they don't HAVE to but it gets the greasy muck out from under the fingernails quicker than Swarfega and a brush.
douglas, that's why I make pastry :D
