Does anyone know what the MOT rules are this time? Is there another extension?
The Gov site is a bit vague.
I also have asthma but haven't been 'officially' told to shield by my docs but obviously I am trying to avoid any unnecessary outside contact.

Thanks :)

Short answer (from What Car? site) is "no extension".
(Garages and test centres are not obliged to close, apparently).
I happened to be in Halford's Autocentre yesterday for an MoT and the receptionist was telling someone that they were staying open.
odd BHG, mines in today - probably the same one :)
Mine was the branch just off the Oxford Road in Reading; I suspect yours was a bit further south.
they just rang me to say there is a problem with the battery, offering to relieve me of £190 for a new one.
I didn't think the battery was included in the MoT, other than it must be securely fixed. My last battery for my Volvo V70 diesel came from Halford's for £115 2 years ago (I fitted it).
Bednobs, I used to get them from Kwik Fit for half that. They came with a year's guarantee, which was useful because they invariably packed up after 11 months and 2 weeks, so I got the replacement free. After a feew years I got tired of the car gliding to a halt in the middle of blizzards though, so I changed supplier.
You can certainly get them cheaper but I always get them with a 5-year guarantee for peace of mind.
Yes, a year's guarantee on a car battery sounds like bargain-basement quality. The price goes up as the quality (and length of warranty) goes up...aim for at least three years - four or five quite common now.
it was, ginge, it was...
Just thinking about a Citroen I bought new many, many years ago. I had it for nine years, and it was the original battery when I sold it.
Diesel car too...tend to be harder on batteries.
I also had a service BHG
The government has vaguely indicated that there will not be any MOT extension during the second lockdown.
P.S. If you have asthma, I would recommend that you watch the air quality and humidity on apps like climacell or IQair before you go out, since there are predictions of stormy weather all over UK. The air quality has also been a bit erratic since bonfire night.
