Why Do Some Performance Cars Make So Much Noise?

Why do some cars, normally customised, growl and rattle loudly when they accelerate while most others are almost silent in comparison? It is clearly within government noise limits as you can see they are expensive and clearly have passed their MoT tests.

How else can one display one's "masculinity" ?
Cos the people who drive them are idiots & want to draw attention to the fact?
Done deliberately. 'Look at me! Look at me, me, me!' Blerdy idiots
Not necessarily within government limits. Put the baffle in for the MOT, then take it out
It's to annoy the sad people in their dull small metal boxes.
Nothing is sadder than a 200 mph supercar that you can only drive at 70 mph. (IMV)
where does it say you can only drive at 70? Ever done a track day dave?
No I haven't & I bet 90% of supercar owners haven't either!
Empty barrels make the most noise
90% of supercar owners buy them as an investment and put them in an air conditioned garage, they barely see the light of day.
the term is "empty vessels" doug
You don't need to own a supercar to drive one round a track for day. You can drive round and round and round and round for around £100. Not very exciting
"90% of supercar owners buy them as an investment and put them in an air conditioned garage, they barely see the light of day."

Probably true in a lot of cases but they won't make much noise!
A friend has a high performance convertible which he only takes out for a few rides in the summer - probably 1000-2000 miles tops (it's not one that will appreciate).
Another guy I know had a Lotus Elise. He did a couple of track days but didn't like the outlay on tyres & the car was next to useless in normal road conditions.
I wouldn't say an Elise was a supercar, good track day car mind, yes it can cost on consumables. Not a hobby for the frugal.
It can be either, but keep on reinforcing the point.

Maybe an idea for your new avatar?
Keep thinking, after all TTT would like a new avatar ;-/
I've decided that TGL has been gone long enough. I'll give TGM a rest.
I personally prefer ‘a wolf in sheep’s clothing’ which is why I’m sold on hybrid or full electric. My Bro-in-Law has a Tesla which can do 0 to 60 in about 3.4 secs- without all that stupid noise!
