Welcome to the squashy club, Martin. The Juke is the ugly one in my opinion.

We have a 2011 diesel N Tec it is extremely low mileage, though (under 30,000). I would personally go with the diesel, because of the new replacement parts on it. I think in general diesel engines handle higher mileages, but obviously stand to be corrected.
It depends very largely on your usage. If you don't do many miles a year or regular longish trips, avoid the diesel. If you are a high-mileage user and do a reasonable number of 30 mile+ trips a year then the diesel will be cheaper to run. The higher mileage on the diesel is irrelevant but the work done is a big point in its favour.

40+ miles a day 5 days a week, at least 2 trips over 700 a year?
In that case diesel - no question.
I was using ours mainly for commuting to and from work (perhaps 5 miles a day), but at the weekends I always gave it a longer run. I have just got myself a Mini so my husband now uses the Qashqai (squashy, as I lovingly call it), we go up to the Lakes in it about twice a year also. On average I was putting £60 of diesel into it every 7/8 weeks, ours is the +2 model 1.5litre.
Correction 1.4 litre, I think.
