I know this was a repeat from last year but I'm more convinced than ever that the government is behind, or the cause of, penalising the motorist. Government cuts mean that local councils have to find some method of raising the lost money. The motorist is going to be that method. Not only locally, but nationally. If you is a motorist, you is gonna pay - big time!

how does that work? Every penalty is for doing something illegal, motorists simply have to obey the law and pay nothing in fines.
ive been watching ch4 all night - no parking wars

This is a simple way for local authorities to raise extra money to waste, and has been going on during successive governments.
these are not clandestine restrictions are they? I mean they have signs yellow lines etc do they not?
They haven't penalised me, 10CS. I either park in somewhere like a supermarket car park or I park maybe a mile away and enjoy a nice walk in. I hate paying for car parking- a £1 is acceptable but anything else I avoid by parking elswhere
TTT is right. I watched 10 mins of "Party Wars" last night and all I saw was selfish, foul-mouthed motorists abusing public servants, who were only doing their job.

So, the best way to avoid a parking fine is not to transgress the law in the first place !

They have already started in my local town, it used to be a mixture of free and pay car parks. Now it's all pay, the hourly rate was increased recently and more yellow lines are appearing.
Councillors and their senior operatives tend to give the impression of not being the sharpest of knives in the box.
Rather pedestrianise a former vibrant shopping street and pave it with faux marble to make it a death trap in rain and snow than use the cash to provide useful facilities like clean toilets, free parking for shoppers or regular subsidised buses to outlying areas.
You don't get a picture of your bloated carcass topped off with moon face in the local rag unless you can mug it up with a shiny new shovel and a hard hat.

That example I admit is probably more local to me than national norms. :)
