i need to make a 270 mile journey tonight or early morning. google maps state the time would be approx 4.30 hrs - 5.20 hrs. that is at a typical speed of 50 mph.

but i will be driving sometimes at 70-90 mph on motorway, average 80mph.

how long would it then take me ?

cheers

Depends on if you get lifted and delayed for breaking the speed limit
Where are you going from and too as that makes a difference
You'd have to give us the route.
At an average speed of 80 MPH you're looking at 3 and a half to four hours.

When I go to Cornwall I leave here at 3 AM and am in St. Austell at 7.
lol@Islay 6.31 ! very true..
Before any long Journey DD, make sure your car is fit for the journey, night driving is far easier regards Traffic than day time, during the day you can not get an estimate due to traffic hold ups, where you are travelling from / to / Road Works, what is your starting Point & have you a time Schedule? never think that from A>>To B will take you so many hours, you can estimate but never does it work like that.
I find it's always better to do a long journey at night.
If you do indeed manage 80mph(more likely to be 65mph) you are looking at just over 3 hrs. But that is a tense drive for 3 hours non stop. I would think that a realistic time would be 3hrs 45mins - 4hrs 15mins. Safe trip Diesel.
I think those times are averaged with the types of roads being taken into consideration, to be honest, they arent usually very far out either. I reckon you could knock 15 to 20 minutes off as long as you dont stop for a pee or a tea and with no other hold ups.
I agree ratter.
I'm not sure about Google maps but if you look on something like AA routeplanner it won't ask you to make a judgement about 'typical' speed since that is determined primarily by the roads and the traffic conditions. The routeplanner will give a reasonably good estimate but in my experience there will always be an unforeseen hold up so I would add on maybe half an hour. If Googlemaps gives a range I would use towards the top of the range - say 5 hours. If AA routeplanner or my satnav said 4-30 I'd allow 5 hours.
So have a look at AA routeplanner or your satnav.
It definitely depends on what your route is if, for example
Sheringham to Birkenhead ferry terminal 240 miles 5hrs 16 mins
Tottenham to Birkenhead ferry terminal 240 miles 3 hrs 40 mins

You will need to come back and give more information!
I make a 270 mile journey, every time I go to West Cornwall, and I can do it in just over 4 hours.
I just looked at Google maps and when I put in the start and finish postcodes it just gives me what looks like a good estimate- it doesn't give me a range or atypical speed figure, so i'm not sure where your figures are from.

In my experience it's difficult to beat the estimated time per 100 miles by more than a few minutes and in practice it usually takes a maybe 5-10 minutes more per 100 miles

How long is a piece of string?
The faster you go the less time it takes, the maths involved are junior school level, it ain't hard.
Quite right balders. In the wee hours it's a lot easier. four hours Dursley to St. Austell. during the day more likely to be 6 - 7 hours.
Sometimes is nowhere near enough info to even make a decent guess at. Get a good sat nav. They give ETA.
