Is there a way to get the stereo to turn off when the engine is switched off, at the moment it stays on until I open the door which is really annoying!

You'll probably not be able to deactivate it, however by pushing the on /off knob it should turn it off.

My Fiesta does the same, although I can't say that it is annoying in any way.
As Tony has said...just turn the bloody radio off !
