Today's Chase, contestant David, Politics student never heard of Eamon De Valera, question was Glastonbury Festival was co founded by the granddaughter of which statesman, Winston Churchill, Eamon de Valera Clement Attlee, he went for Attlee as he didn't know who de Valera was, Anne kind of let him of the hook by saying de Valera wasn't British so that's why he hadn't heard of him, surely Politics cover a wide source of things! de Valera is a well known Historic figure.

Obviously, being Irish, I've heard of him. I really dislike it when people assume that other people should know what they know. I didn't learn about De Valera in school!

I did 'A' Level Politics and can't say he ever got a mention.

de Valera was most famous for going to the German embassy in Dublin too sign the book of condolence for Hitler. Thought that was common knowledge. No this does not count under Godwins law!

He also said that he remembered seeing a "weird symbol like a 6 on its side" while studying maths. I don't know what that could have been. To be fair, I don't think they teach the name of the infinity symbol in A level maths. My son didn't know.

Surely by all the replies lots of people did not know the answer. Nothing wrong in that because most people would not apply to o on a tv quiz. But if you go on a game show you should know answers like this. I find it unbelievable that the researchers allow this people on the show

Simple -- because if you want to see top quizzing among the highest competitors, then you head along to watch a quiz league match between national teams, or the like. These shows are about entertainment, first and foremost.

GOLLOB, why should folk know certain answers? Just because you may know an answer does not mean that everyone else should. There may be areas you know about but what about 2016 music or who's in TOWIE, what like would you be on things like that?

Ultimately it's a team game and folk on there are willing for someone to sacrifice money just to ensure there is a wider breadth of knowledge across those that are left.

There may be someone who scrapes through by luck and answers only one question correctly in the final chase but if that means the they each get a quarter of the prize, that is better than a third of nothing.
