My O/S headlight has stopped working on dip. The strange thing is the main beam light is on even though the headlights are on dip. I have replaced the bulb but it still doesn't work so I was wondering if it could be a fuse or relay or a problem with the switch. I'm not very good with electrics so was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and could point me in the right direction please. Many Thanks. Eric.

Could well be the actual connector, pull the connector from the bulb and have a good look at the wiring on it.
Also have a look in your owners hand book and see if there are two separate fuses ( left and right ) for dipped beam. Check the fuse for the side that's not working.

I now find that the headlight doesn't work on either dip or main beam but the main beam light is on whether the headlights are on main beam or dip.
Next thing to look at then is the low beam relay. That will be in the fuse box under the bonnet.
Just re read what you say on your second post, are you saying the lights come on when ever the ignition is switched on ?.
If so then my guess is the light switch is at fault.
I think what he's saying, Tonyav, is that the headlight bulbs never illuminate but the headlamp warning light on the dashboard lights up whether he has selected low or high beam.
Mmmmmm, see what you mean bhg481.
My guess is the light switch is up the creek.
I wonder if we could be looking at an earthing problem on the O/S light unit.
The OP does not seem to know what he is doing here. I would suggest that he visits an auto electrician, where his problem will be solved pretty quickly, rather than him playing about with his car electronics and doing serious damage.
Main / dip within the same bulb, one of the Filaments has gone, hold up the bulb & flick the glass, try inserting WD40 Spray into the connector then replace the bulb & try, the bulb should only go in one way.
