As an aside, I wonder if that young driver is related to the idiots who nicked a computer and printer from the station I worked at. Anyone like to guess the offenders IQ?
SSS.......not very high if he pinched a Rover!
What was the instructor doing outside the car letting a learner driver drive unaccompanied ? Isn't that illegal ?
Not if it was on private land, O_G.

Most motoring laws don't apply on private property unless:
(a) that property is freely accessible to the public (such as a supermarket car park) ; and
(b) a section has been inserted into the relevant legislation to specifically give such locations the same status as a public road.

Plenty of driving instructors around here use places like the Toys R Us car park or private industrial estates for teaching learners, so it might have been a similar situation.
Ah. Was never on private land when I learnt, but that would explain it; thanks.
As an aside, I wonder if that young driver is related to the idiots who nicked a computer and printer from the station I worked at. They were in a lockable unit which served as a customer information point in our booking hall. The whole thing was meant to be locked up and wheeled to a safe location every night but my colleague forgot and I came onto a morning shift to find the items missing.

The CCTV showed a man and woman hanging around in the booking hall for ages, in full view of 4 separate high-definition cameras. When they thought 'the coast was clear' they fetched their car and drove onto the forecourt (being picked up by another 3 cameras, with their registration number clearly visible) before loading the stolen items into the boot.

The British Transport Officer who viewed the CCTV knew that they'd had no problem tracking down the offenders but they couldn't do so immediately as they had to attend the local Magistrates' Court to give evidence in another case. They sat down in the waiting area and looked at the couple sitting next to them, whom they immediately recognised and arrested for stealing our computer! (We had it back before I'd finished my shift!).

There are some really gormless thieves around!!!
