If behind on the task list and renewal not outrageous, then accept. Otherwise see what the comparison sites come up with.
I go on comparison sites.

I always paid our insurance annually so I never got automatic renewal if you don't cancel by a certain date.
But these days they just tell you they're charging your card by such & such a date anyway. Ought to be illegal.
I've never experienced that. I've just received a letter saying I need to renew by a certain date or the insurance will stop.
You can opt out of automatic renewal and receive traditional reminders instead.

I have a look on comparson websites and quite often phone my insurer with the news that its cheaper elsewher. If they match I stick.

OG, have you got Automatic Renewal? If so, cancel it.
I always renew with Direct Line as the cost stays reasonable.
Exactly as Maydup. In fact I've just interrupted the boring process of getting quotes to have a quick look at AB.
I automatically renew, simply cannot be bothered faffing about getting quotes.

Made of money Eccles? lol
I know that any saving I make will be negligible and not worth me wasting a morning to save £10.
If you are a member of a breakdown service such as AA or RAC, they will also give you a better price at renewal if you phone them and ask.

Eccles - even if you can't be bothered to get quotes, just ring your insurer next time and ask if the price is the best they can do as you have had a better quote. If they ask you what your quote is, give them a figure of about half your renewal. See what happens.
actually eccles you can make a significant saving by using a comparison site, companies rely on the fact people cannot be bothered to look around and jack up the prices, my last renewal quote was £150 more than other companies were quoting for exactly the same cover.

I respect you answer Eccles but I will give you an Instance, I am reluctantly selling my car as I have purchased a Diesel, my Insurance wants an Extra £100 to Insure it, I have done my searching, with more Extras I have come up with the cost been a £100 less, just a bit of advice.
I tend to use comparison sites to get a better price then go back to my existing insurer to see if they can match it. If not, I go with the other company provided they are 'known' to me.

Customer loyalty is dead nowadays, it's every man for himself.

Do the same for house insurance and utilities.
My insurance is under £200, I am not going to be making any significant savings with such a low premium. Mr Cake pays a very similar premium to me and has recently renewed having got a few quotes, I am quite happy that I am getting a fair deal.
It's got to cost insurance companies more to set up a new policy than to renew an existing one and yet they give, in effect, a discount for starting a new policy. It just shows how much apathy there is in people not bothering to look around at renewal time. I'm sure that if ALL the companies could agree to stop this silly system then prices would come down.
It always is. You sign up for one. 12 months later they're saying they will charge again. Haven't they all cottoned on to that trust abuse yet ?
The last 2 years when I have had my renewal notice from Hastings I have then gone straight to the comparison sites to get another quote. Last 2 years Hastings came up cheaper on the sites than my renewal notice. Gave them a call and they honoured the cheaper quote.
I never accept a quote that I haven't compared to quite a few others.
