as soon as I start the engine the aircon comes on by default - anyone know how to stop this ? thanks

You could try this

If you want to stop the climate control defaulting to Auto when you start the car, you need to change the Configuration settings.

To change the settings, turn the ignition on, then press the CONFIG button on the centre console.
Use the multi-function knob to scroll through the list of options shown on the center display.
Highlight and select the "Vehicle Settings" option, then highlight and select the "Climate and Air Quality" option.
Under this option it should be possible to set the Climate Control to always start in Auto, or to remember whatever setting was in use, when the car was last used.
