I have a 4 year old MB B180 with about 40k on the clock. I received info of the MB extended warranty scheme which for about £400pa covers all electrical and mechanical failures. BUT....failure through wear and tear is excluded. Given the age and mileage I guess it would be too easy for the company to deny any liability in the event of a claim. Have any of you any experience with this product?

No experience but Quentin Willson endorses a warranty which may give you an alternative. Can't for the life of me remember the name of it but google his name followed by warranty. Have you tried the MB owners club for info?
I don’t think Quentin Wilson endorses the warranty company based on his experience of the company – me thinks that he enjoys some pecuniary advantage by doing so.
I would agree whole-heartedly with you – and as the years go by, it will become harder to argue that any failure is not due to wear and tear.

You have to appreciate that in any insurance scheme such as this – your £400 pa is paying for all sorts of overheads, not just repair claims.

My advice would be to save the £400 a year and act as your own insurer – if you were to have a claim every 3 years, £1,200 will buy a fair bit of MB garage repair time & parts.

Of course you could be very unlucky and have a very expensive repair (that would have been covered by the insurance) – but that is the [small] risk you take by following my advice.
