When I was growing up this was always considered a no no, not really sure why but does anyone know if there is (or was) any reason why it's not a good idea?

No dot not getting confused with push starting or towing the actual car, the former is well known and logical the later is not true, well not these days anyway, my car has a button you can press to allow towing but even if it did not I'd have thought Nuetral would allow it to be towed. No doubt some enlightened soul will correct me on that!

As far as the original post goes I was not aware of the historic reasons why towing was not advised so thank you all for that.
