Check the drive belt tension - the belt that turns the alternator.
Does your ignition light glimmer faintly while the engine is running ?, if it does them it's probably an alternator fault, or have you got any interior lights that are stuck on, maybe in the boot or the glovebox ?.
Is there a warranty with the battery? if so, get the battery checked by the people who sold it to you. (Faulty battery)

The red light isnt always a charging light like in the old days its an ignition light it so gives no indication of a charging failure.

Doesn't the ignition light go out , once the engine is running ?
It should do Bazile.
That is Tony's point.
Be aware that this vehicle also has an engine-bay light (mounted on the underside of the bonnet), energised when the bonnet is open.
