I know you can transfer & retain these, BUT - my query is my vehicle will probably get written off, has anyone been in a similar situation & know how this gets done, I have informed the Insurance company so they are aware of my desire, but didn't a conclusive answer from the DVLA, also returning road tax for refund & would it be necessary to sorn the vehicle as well.
may go to local vehicle office Tuesday - if that has not shut yet.
TIA.

It costs £85 to put them on another car. I would suggest you get the number plates from the garage and then you will have them for your new
car, when I brought mine I then took them to be put on my car the car
showroom should help you with this and mine have been now on four cars
when I brought a new car I got them transferred over costing £85 each time
the DVLA will do this but as I suggest you would need the plates good luck
hope this helps.
You need to fill in one of these and send to DVLA with the required documents (usually V5C "log book");

well as I said I would put on retention £105, till I get a settlement from insurance, I have filled a form out for that & tax refund & sorn, but not sure if I can because of the outstanding claim process, I have transfered plates 7 times so far - but all of them straightforward until now.
BTW - on motorcycle not car lol
