I don't know whether they want to see details of you or the car, but do you see a problem in providing a copy of the document?
Does the letter give any hint as to why they want it? If you are unsure you may want to ask them first
Perhaps they've found a minor discrepancy in their records, which they simply want to check on? For example, if the car has been resprayed a different colour, you might have declared it as red, when the V5C says it's blue. Your insurer could well regard such a change as a 'modification' which should have been declared to them (to assess the relevant premium) and to DVLA (to avoid prosecution).

hi, thanks for the reply, it says on letter "to update our records" but as they never asked before i was puzzled. and im their customer for quite few years for additional car and was never asked to show copy of logbook.
was it definitely from the insurance company? there are fraudulent letters out there
Ring up the Coop and ask them, mk.

yeah, i'll phone them on monday morning and ask, letter is definately from them, it has my policy number, thanks for all replies.
If you have been "their customer" for a few years you must be paying well over other insurance companies, you should check others, they will be cheaper.

I cannot see any reason to have to show your registration docs!
I was also asked to provide a copy of my log book when I changed insurer last year. I was told over the phone that they need to confirm that the person they are insuring is the registered keeper of the car.
Don't ring the number given either!
Sounds odd especially if the policy was renewed back in Nov.

Phone them via a number from their website (not the letter) and undertsand why before you send it.

i will phone them through phone number on my policy document, not the number on letter, i asked a friend who is also customer of the cooperative and he said when he changed to them, he was asked to send a copy, but im already their customer, had a car before i bought my this present and transferred insurance over and renewed insurance with them again in november as they were the cheapest.
many thanks again for your replies.
