It's my 2007 Fiat Punto'a birthday today.Just took it in for it's annual MOT and Service only 12400 miles on clock since new,now awaiting a call to say it's done and passed MOT i hope. Often wish it didn't fall just before Christmas which is expensive enough without car bills. It's having a low mileage service this year as it had a full service last year.OH says I should consider trading it in for a new model but with such low mileage and in excellent condition I think it would be a waste of money. What do you Abers think.?

If the car is reliable, cheap to run, good on fuel, I cannot see the point in changing the car.

Did you buy it from new or newish? If I get a new car, then I would always olan to keep it for 10 years or as near as possible provided i love it.

Hold on to it and run it till it stops. (Friday possibly). It's the only way to get your money's worth.
Re MOT. Never ever leave a car into the garage and ask for a pre MOT check. You are giving the mechanic a licence to print money. Do all the obvious checks yourself and get it MOT'd. If it fails the reentry fee plus the cost of the necessary repairs will work out much cheaper than the list of "work" the garage wanted to do. I am a mechanic!

Yes Woofgang I have had from new.I use an excellent local garage Needawin, Euromotors who have an excellent reputation here.
Glad to say car passed MOT,service and Mot £112.95 inc vat,Advised to keep check on front tyres as they are down to 3mm, also advised that reccomended time for changing the timing chain etc.is 72,000miles or 5 years so i guess thats the next job in the new year, quoted £169 + vat. Glad you are like thinking with me over keeping the car a few more years.
2007? That is a new car to me.
My MOT used to be due on January 1st,I used to take it in December, got the extra till Jan 1st on it,but I took it beginning of October this year to get it away from any possible bad weather.
Keep it.

I bought an Astra sport, from new, years back (N Reg) and because of the low mileage when something went wrong after about 5 years Vauxhall coughed up for the repairs. Very very expensive repairs.

We also made the mistake of sorting out a car over the xmas period. Insurance is paid on the 7th Dec and MOT/Tax is due in Feb.
^^^We don't still have the same car.
Not many miles on the clock for a 5 year old car. If it runs well and suits your needs, why change? If you have the money to chage, its up to you but it doesnt sound like you need to out of necessity.
My engine light on my Mercedes has come on today so I am dreading taking it in just before Christmas, keep hoping it will just go away on its own!!
