Driving home on A50 (near Hilton, Derbyshire) one day last week and one day this week they were displaying the following message "FOR OLYMPIC EVENTS PLAN YOUR JOURNEY-ARRIVE ON TIME"
Now after my last post called MOTORWAY MOANS on these, I have not come to terms with what a phenomenal waste of money they are, and how they are still displaying WRONG or IRRELEVANT information.....
1)If we are off to the Olympic games and have had the intelligence to get through the bidding and purchasing proceedures, I'm sure we can plan how much time we have to allow to get there!!!
2) this gantry sign is nowhere near the Olympic games!
So my point is IF IT'S NOT RELEVANT THEN DON'T BOTHER! I'm still thinking its some YTS dimwit typing onto these displays. Better to leave them blank than to pickle us all off!!!!

Just wait until they start displaying advertisements - it won't be long I'm sure, they already display road safety slogans on occasions.
I've been seeing the same signs on all major roads for the past 2/3 weeks. Visited my son just outside Huddersfield at Easter and they were there as well.
I'm in Lancashire and they are up here on the M6 aswell. As you say, what a bloomin waste.
When they do show traffic information, they don't cancel them when the problem clears.

As a professional driver, it drives me mad. They spend millions putting them in, but you simply can't trust the information they give.

They employ Wombles to drive up and down the motorways, so you would think they would ring in to cancel incorrect information.
We saw them last week on our way home from Weymouth. Anyone with any sense would have already sussed that out. Our friends there tell us that the Council have spent loads of money building new roads, apartment blocks (without Kitchens) to house the Olympic athletes, tidying up buildings and the marina in Poole harbour. All with money they cannot really afford, just for four weeks of Olympic sailing events. The expected bookings at the hotels haven't materialised yet.
