I need to tax my car today. It's MOT'd and insured. Don't want to hang about on phone lines if someone can give me a definite answer. Can I tax it by phone without the reference number?

I don't think so.

You don't need the 'logbook' though if you have the reminder form which should have been sent to you recently.
The ref number you need for online and phone is on the reminder.

Lol...okay....it's the reminder I can't find.

Will start looking again 'sigh'
If you can't find the reminder you can do it with the 'logbook' - or are we going round in circles here?
Try online, you may have an option just to use the reg number.
No Rocky, you need one or the other.

Thanks....I tried on the DVLA site...and it's no go...

I will find it...

I just thought, maybe, they'd do it over the phone with the Reg and address...
look in the fridge

did you take it with you to the test centre, where is your mot cert?
why can't you do it online using the ref no? That's all I ever do, arives in the post.
I taxed my car the other day and they didn't need the MOT certificate as I've got one of the new MOT receipt type things.

I just handed them the reminder and the insurance and they zapped the barcode.

I'm sure I've taxed cars with the new owner part of the logbook before too as I've had no reminder slip.
You can do it online without the reminder. I have just come from the post ofiice and they couldn't access their computers, they rang the post office helpline and said it was a country wide problenm so there may be problems at your local post office too.
...and, if you've got the reminder and the registration document, are you sure you still have the car?........
Have you found it yet Ummmm?
