Advice please as to where I can obtain clear self adhesive plastic which can be applied to vulnerable areas of car bodywork. My passenger door cill is being damaged by my wifes wheelchair as I am transfering her into the vehicle. Thanks in advance for any replies.

speak to a local vehicle paint supplier, its called 'anti stone chip decal/tape', many manufacturers use it but its usually shaped to a particular panel when purchased from a dealer as a part..

Depending on your colour there is a Tape you can put on the Instep of your car, there are also Stainless Plates to be Adheared to the Instep, I have two on mine, they are about 30pound EBay.
As TWR said you can get alloy or SS sills for a lot of cars, don't know what your car is though.

Better than tape.
This sort of thing...........
