Halogen or HID?
Check fuse(s) and (particularly) bulb connector contacts (wriggle)
Question Author
Halogen. Fuses and connector have been checked by Audi dealer. They can find no reason & have no suggestions!
Has the bulb been replaced?
Question Author
Yes
Does it go off and on of it's own accord .. or will switching lights off then on illuminate it again?
It may be the eltronic management system- I had the same problem with reversing lights
Question Author
Of its own accord
I don't know the TT but does the connector go straight to the bulb or via some internal wiring in the headlight unit ?
Usually, there are jumper leads inside headlamp housing .. always with HID, sometimes with Halogen.
Is it possible to get it to fail when parked .. test the supply at headlamp?
Dip or Main beam fail (or both?)
Ask Audi if they will swap out the headlamp unit as a whole to narrow down the problem.
Can you wiggle the wires/thump the unit the next time it has gone out?

I have an intermittently lighting daylight running sidelight bulb on an A6. If it is off, it will come on when the bonnet catch is released. Haven't talked to Audi yet.
