Can you leave a trailer parked on the road without it being attached to the towing vehicle?

I've seen skips left on the side of the road, whether or not legal I do not know, but they usually have cones and some sort of lighting attached. I assume you are refering to parking in urban areas.
You can but not overnight.
Just found this on a forum, it is an extract from the highway code.

223: All vehicles MUST display parking lights when parked on a road or a lay-by on a road with a speed limit greater than 30 mph.
Law RVLR reg 24

224: Cars, goods vehicles not exceeding 1525kg unladen, invalid carriages and motorcycles may be parked without lights on a road (or lay-by) with a speed limit of 30 mph or less if they are

at least 10 metres (32 feet) away from any junction, close to the kerb and facing in the direction of the traffic flow
in a recognised parking place or lay-by. Other vehicles and trailers, and all vehicles with projecting loads, MUST NOT be left on a road at night without lights.
Law RVLR reg 24

strangely though sec 24 RVLR does not mention 30mph & it wold seem his trailer should not be left once detached

Ok so if it has lights I can then? Here's the scenario. If I pick up a race car on a trailer and park it outside my house in the road, with lights on the trailer would that be ok?

If the above is true then presumably you can park any car on a trailer on the road.

yeah thanks sally!

Rule: 224 is above, I have read it but I was seeking verification of my understanding as it is ambiguous.
If the car's valuable it becomes very vulnerable on a trailer. Make sure you immobilise the trailer - clamp the wheel or lock the towing eye.

Thanks, seejay but this is more a question of what is the legal position, security measures are thorough.
"security measures are thorough. "
Pikeys, also, are thorough.

Can we stick to the point here!
If a HGV you need lights, if an ordinary trailor you still need some sort of lighting at the rear.
It's illegal to leave anything on the public highway that isn't licensed. A skip must have a permit issued by the police or council. You will be committing several offences.

Leaving trailers at rest
Regulation 89 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 provides for the leaving of trailers at rest.
No person in charge of a motor vehicle, or trailer drawn thereby, shall cause or permit such trailer to stand on a road when detached from the drawing vehicle unless one at least of the wheels of the trailer is (or, in the case of a track-laying trailer, its track are) prevented from revolving by the setting of a parking brake or the use of a chain, chock or other efficient device.

Section 22(1) Road Traffic Act 1988, as amended by Road Traffic Act 1991states it is an offence for a person in charge of a vehicle to cause or permit the vehicle or a trailer drawn by it to remain at rest on a road in a position or in such condition or in such circumstances as to involve a danger of injury to other persons using the road.

Regulation 103 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 creates the offence of unnecessary obstruction.
No person in charge of a motor vehicle or trailer shall cause or permit the vehicle to stand on a road so as to cause any unnecessary obstruction of the road.
when I have had skips outside the only requirement was for either end to be lit and not to cause an obstruction,,,as long as the vehicle in question is taxed etc etc..can,t see it is any different...although the risk is that a trailer COULD be hitched up and taken......
murraymints, the builder or skip company would have the licence.
it wouldnt have a for sale sign on it then?
