It has stayed on for the last six months even when the washer fluid tank is full ?

Dick sensor on the container. Try cleaning internaly with spirit such as isopropylalcohol.

Replace the sensor. Never heard of a dick sensor : )

Very good! Sorry a mere finger slip. Should have been "Check" sensor of course.
