Hello, i have had a clicking noise from the drivers side front wheel for a couple of days now, booked it in for tuesday to have the cv joint replaced as this is what the man at the garage said it was, the clicking noise was only there for 2 days, happened when in a straight line or turning wheel whilst driving....however today when i got in the car and drove it...no noise at all, drove for 20 miles..still no clicking....did 3 point turns full lock and still no clicking, so my question is, is it possible to have a failing cv joint that sometimes clicks and sometimes dosnt? as i think its pointless replacing a part if it is somwthing else..ive checked the tyre nothing in it, any help would be appreciated before i waste some money.thanks jesyca

the click noise? it isnt doing it now, but it sounded like a big stone stuck in the tyre, i checked the tyre but nothing in it, on the 3rd or 4th day the noise went alltogether...just dont want to waste money, but at the same time if anyone can tell me it IS a intermittant problem then i will get it changed, thanks jesyca
I'm not a mechanic, but, it doesn't sound like the C.V joint.
Get your tyres checked, it may well have been a stone in the tread, or it could be an egg in the tyre.

thanks for your reply, tyres checked at garage all ok plenty tread, no bulges or splits, my dad swapped the rear wheels for the fronts and noise was still there but all of a sudden the ticking noise stopped altogether after3 or 4 days, just dont want to throw money away replacing it if its not the problem, all discs pads and cv boots all ok
could it be a wheel bearing ?

my dad and local garage checked for wheel bearings and rod ends?? they were all ok, he said the bearings would be a rumbling noise and if you go round a roundabout on the bad side it would be louder so it seems not the bearings or rod ends
It could be your discs are warped/worn or the pads are sticking.
If it ain't broke don't fix it !

Could have been a stone between the disc and back plate, happened to me, I reversed 2 yards and it dropped out, clicking stopped, if it starts again get a good garage to do a proper check not just immediately say it's a CV joint!
