S Reg in 1998.

Look at the online autotrader and similar sites and see how much that car is selling for.
Question Author
erm I'm not into selling and buying much do you have specific websites that do not charge like autotrader wants to do ( 3.50)
As with everything in life, it is worth as much as someone is willing to pay.

Look at how much similar cars are selling for but to be honest at the moment is is a buyers market and I would be taking a good percentage off any advertised price.

I thinkj that you should be looking to spend a maximum of 80% of the asking price unless the original price was outrageous and then you would be trying to get it for less.
Question Author
well he originslly wanted 900 it seems to be in good condition and similar cars are going for about the same
Why would you want to buy a Hyundai Atoz horrible things. Have you given up on life???
it doesn't look as I'd imagine a "Thunderchild" type of car!
always try to knock em down, pick on any small faults to use as 'leverage' especially if its been for sale a while. also check for any service history as a cambelt change should be done around now given its mileage. seriously though the Atoz is toss.
Question Author
its been well kept but I'm worried about the cost of spares and no I don't give a damn what it looks like as I just need the best bang for the buck I can get
by 'well kept' does this include service history? Dont always accept what you are told unless they have proof of work that has been carried out. A cambelt failure for instance WILL write off the engine, but it doesnt cost that much to do, buying second hand from a private seller you really must look after your money. With regards to parts, many Hyundai parts can be found from a decent car spares shop with only a few items requiring main dealer prices. Scrap yards are a good place to find spares for a car this old.

I've got the choice of the hyundai which he says he has a full history of or a fiesta which is 13 years old for 500 but it does have a rusted out spare wheel holder. it is like a bracket under the boot so its not part of the boot but its gone with rust would this affect the MOT ?
if its between a 13 year old fiesta and the hyundai then Id go for the latter. You dont have to have a spare wheel for the mot, however if you have one then it must be road legal. Normally old people drive the Atoz so it should be in better condition than the fiesta, as unless its been owned by the pope it would have probably been many peoples' first car. check the amount of previous owners and how long the last owner had it for.
if the Atoz has no tax then that too could be used to knock some money off. always have a good look at any supporting documents they may have, see if its been 'stamped' or just hand written, check any receipts they may have also. On the current MOT certificate see if an 'advisory notice' was issued and if so ask to see it as this will gve you some idea as to what work it may need before passing its next mot.
Question Author
well the atoz was owned by one old person and his son was also put on it so officially its 2 previous owners although it was kept in the same family as a runaround. I'm thinking if it lasts me 2 years thats 400 a year and the fiesta will probably only last a year, the rusty wheel holder is a failure because it is within 30 cm of the wheel legs (just checked with a garage) the MOT runs out in january and the hyundai goes till may
well after consulting with my brother rodney an my uncle albert....ill give ya a tenner and thats my last offer!
take the spare holder off! It sounds like you have answeredyour original question, The Atoz will probably last longer and give you fewer problems, also if you look after it you should be able to sell it on easier. I would still check out the 'advisory notice' though (if its had one) as this WILL help a lot in predicting any repair costs over the coming months.
Simonross, I am afraid you are wrong on the spare. It only has to be road legal when it is put onto the axle.

You can carry a cartwheel as a spare if you like, as long as you don't use it.
Question Author
the issue is that the spare wheel holder is rusted away and is within 30 cm of the wheel legs so will be a failure and of course there will be more rust to come
If the rust is that bad there, it will be everywhere.

I wouldn't touch the Fiesta.
Question Author
I've got the Atoz, its in very good condition and with just 52000 miles should have life in it
