Just put our old car in part exchange for a new one under the scrap page scheme. We have now received a letter and form to fill in by Experian about the mileage etc of our old car. Surely this is irrelevant as the car is supposed to be scrapped, not revamped and resold!

just dont fill it in. why would experian be intereted anyway?
^^^
Because experian offers a HPI vehicle check service , i suppose
Yes I get requests like this whenever I change cars. I always say I'm going to investigate the legality of Experian (or whoever) obtaining my personal data. But I never bother. Nor do I bother with their request.
It doesnt have to be scrapped. For whatever reason the mileage might be of use if the car is sold on

I thought that under the scrap page scheme, the car had to be scrapped.
it does
Well if you have sold the car and presumably no longer hold any paperwork, how can you give any detail on the mileage?
Bednobs Carolegif. im not a used car expert but What Car website says BMW will scrap older cars while newer will be sold on as used vehicles. Other dealers say scrap means scrap. There is no compulsion to join the scheme. Dealers will make a profit where they can smell one, as long as the car is street legal.
