Vandalised Valve

Some little c*** has pulled the inner part of a valve out of one of my back tyres.
Is this common practice? It seems a bit more pre-meditated than simply letting a tyre down, they would have had to have used a pair of needle-nosed pliers to do this.
More to the point, is it repairable? the tyre in question is relatively new.
Cheers.

Tyre and valve are separate items. Tyre will have to come off the wheel to fit new valve.
Quick. Easy. Cheap.

Thanks Chris, could I do it myself potentially? Or is Chiaroscuro correct about tyre removal?
I'd remove the wheel and take it to any 'tyre & exhaust' place.

However if you google 'replace tyre valve' there are several videos which might help. (I've not linked to a particular one. I'll leave it to you to see if any of them are right for you).
You can replace the valve core without removing the tyre and replacing the whole valve. If you buy a new valve from a tyre dealer you can remove the core yourself (just like the vandals did) and screw it into your current valve. I've done it myself when I had a valve which was leaking slightly.
Further to my last post you can buy a special tool for removiing valve cores if you can't manage with a pair of needle-nose pliers:

As a second point, next time you have a tyre replaced ask for the old valve back just to give you a spare core.

Ahaaaa! That looks easy, thanks a million. I was hoping something like that might exist - I could probably make one out of an old screwdiver, I'm a dab hand with a Dremel/miniature cutting disc.

Just bought one on Ebay that comes with valve cores and an inner thread cleaning tool.
As a parting gesture, I might paint my valve caps with concentrated hydrochloric acid each night ;-)
Thanks folks for all the help and advice, much appreciated.
another way to do this, take the wheel off fit in new insert, put a rope or strap all around the middle of the tyre when you inflate,
Probably won't need the 'rope or strap round the middle'. That would only be needed if the tyre was dislodged from the rim.

Post script:
As advised, I found a kit that contained several new valve cores, a tool and new dust caps. The new core screwed in perfectly thus reinforcing my belief that this was the work of a tool equipped disgruntled "road owner" who believes that the road outside his house belongs to him. Next time I park there I'll make sure the w4nker is caught on camera.
