can i use normal 20/50w engine oil in my diesel engine?

What do you mean by "normal"? You should use oil that is made for diesel engines - labelled "for diesel engines" (not surprisingly!).
Well you 'can' .. but the real answer is a little more complicated.
Realistically .. you cannot use it because it is broken down very quickly in a diesle engine. You would need to replace oil and filter VERY regularly. That is why there are oils with specific qualities and specifications that are designed for modern diesel and turbo-charged (or both) engines.
You should try and use a good quality oil of the correct spec. suitable for your type of engine.

probably not IF it has a DPF fitted, that normally requires a more specific oil.
