Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is an action adventure sequel. The second in the series after the Curse of the Black Pearl, this film was directed by Gore Verbrinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The ensemble cast continue in their original roles including Johnny Depp, Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom.

On the whole Dead Man’s Chest was well received, many lovers of the original enjoying this second outing by Captain Jack Sparrow. The film is much darker and the cast really start to get into their roles. Many viewers felt the main characters were more adequately explored and that contributed to its success. Audiences who were already invested in the characters and knew the back story could enjoy the film without wondering the why’s and wherefore’s. In addition, the visual effects were stunning and made the film jump out of the screen.

The plot starts a year after the end of the first film and follows Jack as he tries to avoid paying his blood debt to Davey Jones. Will and Elizabeth get caught up again in the quest to find Davey Jones’ locker which is supposed to contain his heart and whoever controls the heart controls Jones and the sea. The end of the film is the lead in to the final in the trilogy At World’s End.
