Lewis is a popular spin off from the Inspector Morse series. Kevin Whately is Detective Inspector Robbie Lewis, ably assisted by his young sidekick, D.S. Hathaway (Laurence Fox) in this hit detective drama full of intriguing murder mystery. Set in the idyllic surroundings of Oxford and its University campus, murder has never been so appealing.

Following the death in 2000 of his eponymous mentor in Inspector Morse, Sergeant Lewis was promoted to Inspector and took a sabbatical in the British Virgin Isles. He now returns to Oxford after several years absence. Lewis is older and has been through the mill; his wife was killed by a hit and run driver and, of course, he misses his mentor Morse whose wisdom and sharp tongue energized and rattled him.

Morse's past influence is ever present in Lewis; however, Lewis's individualism becomes more apparent as the series develops. The Lewis and Hathaway partnership matures with each episode with delightful quips of humour.

Each subsequent series unfolds the relationship between Lewis and Hathaway and allows the older and wiser Lewis to develop fully into his new role. The individual cases are very well written and the acting is always excellent. There are currently four series available and they can be thoroughly recommended for all Morse fans.
