Reggie Perrin - remake.

Does anyone beside me think that it will be a let down as the original was ground-breaking and perfectly cast. Why don't the BBC just show the original series again? It would be much cheaper and wouldn't have to compare one against the other? Just hope that this isn't the start of a trend. Can you imagine Hancock, Steptoe, Fawlty Towers or The Good Life being remade? Neither can I.

Like Martin Clunes as an actor yet methinks the remake will not work. Remember the original that watched as a child- enjoyed it too. Osprey- great name. Ospreys are one of my favourite types of birds- first spotted them in the Highlands of Scotland- awesome sight! Have a fantastic Saturday Osprey!

I'm not a great fan of "remakes". They may, or may not, be good but they're never better than the original. However, I suppose a whole generation never saw the originals so maybe they will like it.

Loved Minder yet the remake was really naff and switched over half way through the programme! Most remakes are naff yet would love to see The Avengers updated!

Paul Merton has done a remake of Hancock and if that and Clunes' Reggie Perrin brings the originals to the attention of younger audiences then I am all for it.

I'm going to keep an open mind about the new Reggie Perrin. Martin is a good actor and should bring a new dimension to the role but I am a big fan of the original.

I'll try and watch the series without comparing it to the original - I might be able to enjoy it on its own merits.

I only ever watched one episode of the original series, because I couldn't stand Leonard Rossiter. I think Martin Clunes will be good in the role, I've not always liked everything he's done, but will watch the first episode with an open mind.

i think its a generational thing. i remember and love the original reggie perrin so to me it is massive mistake but it is over 30 yrs old now so when remade will appeal to whole new generation.

i too was disappointed when i heard about this as i was a big fan of the original.
Then i heard an interview on the radio, and as it's the same writer, who wants to do a version of it, set in today's time, i think it might work.

Well, it's the day after the programme aired and I must admit it was better than I thought it would be BUT I wont be making a point of watching it instead of other programmes. Might still record it to watch later though as it could improve. The original got of to a slow start in it's first couple of episodes if I recollect correctly.
