The very savvy Katrina was on Raio 2 this morning promoting her new single. Perfect timing - and, no, that is not the name of the song:-)
It is a 'song contest' - even if people feel it has morphed into a game of political one-upmanship.

The original idea of the Eurovision Song Contest was a contest for song writers, in order to build some cultural bridges between European nations after the war.

Mr Anderson and Mr Ulveus had a number of attempts to write Sweden's entry before they were successful - some for groups in which they were not personally involved.

Because for them, they would 'win' as songwriters no matter who actually sung their song.

And in 1974, they did - and the rest is proverbial history.
I accidentally(!) watched a semi final last night and have to say my favourite (and the only one I would remember after about ten minutes) was Moldova! It even had me clapping my hands and tapping my feet. Hey Ho! Let's Go! They really looked like they were enjoying themselves too.

With a view to having a couple of small punts in the contest, i watched about a minute each of the 10 qualifiers from last night's first semi final. The Moldova entry was, to my ear, a bit too much Cotton Eye Joe

why do we waste money on this ,i don't think we will ever have a hope of winning it again .
I stopped watching. I like competition to be about what it’s supposed to be about - and that isn’t.

This one made me smile - and great lyrics, "Before it eats my granma, give that wolf a banana" :-)))))

The rest were rather dull ballads. Well sung, but dull all the same.
I believe Muldova are second faves after Ukraine - obviously.
Are the Russkies competing this year?
Actually as it stands the UK are official second favourites after Ukraine.

Moldova are represented for the 3rd time by the legendary Zdob si Zdob. I used to have an album of theirs it’s just occurred to me but goodness knows where it is.

I’ve now listened to all 40 songs which is probably above and beyond :-)

Zdob si Zdub, before someone points out my mistake ;-)
Ukraine is nailed on to win, surely.
I think our guy might do ok.
I haven’t watched the whole show in years, but I think I will this time.
I guess that Manizha's "Russian Woman" isn't making a comeback from last year - thank Putinbastard for one thing at least...bad as it was to begin with.

TORATORATORA doesn't watch the programme but looks up the voting after the event because, "who supports who helps in all sorts of other areas."

Now, without listening to each song, how would you know if the votes were reasonable or no?
I’m really looking forward to the jury voting. What will they do?
Given that TORATORATORA looks up the votes each year, he must be able to give a forecast based upon previous voting patterns.
surely that was for the 'Farage'' Group, Corby?
If sultry Cyprus (that’s quite a video!) qualify tomorrow we know that they and Greece will award each other douze points. As they have done since Sparta was a city state.
Other than that … not sure.
And the phone vote breakdown is not known these days until later
I am sure TORATORATORA must have a wealth of data on the event but without having listened to any of the songs, how would he know if the songs are irrelevant?
