I've been wracking my brains: can anyone remember the TV series from decades ago set in a stately home or estate and the theme music was a brass band. It was very funny and quite lunatic. I think it was adapted from a series of books.

Thank you. It was Blott on the Landscape. It was hilarious. I wish they would shows it again.
Winstonian...read the book...its even funnier, as all Sharpes books are !
Yes Tom Sharp is VERY funny, it took me ages to read 'Riotous Assembly' his 1st book. I actually fell on the floor with laughing. Had to stop reading for an hour or as I was laughing so much.
Ahh Rioutous Assembly made me cry with laughter too. I could never watch Ernie Els play golf without remembering Konstable Els and the mayhem he caused.
Loved Porterhouse Blue as well, Skullion was a great character and the aptly named Mrs Biggs. Worth another read some of those books. I also remember having a little bet on a horse called Tom Sharpe in the Cesarewitch that duly won at 40/1
