I thought that both parents had to be carriers for a child to have cystic fibrosis. Anyone medical about?

yup, of course one or both parents may not have known they were carriers

Same with many genetic conditions. The parents don't find out they are carriers until after they have children.

But (and if you don't watch eastenders, you may be lost here!), Jimbo and Dean had different fathers.
In woof's link it says that 1 in 25 carry the gene so it's completely unbelievable.

And Shabnam also would have to be a carrier. Just think they should be realistic if they are going with a storyline to raise awareness of the condition.
Whenever are soaps realistic?
I suppose they rely on you not thinking too deeply about it.
