There is far too much judging on television these days ,singing. Cooking .I was a fair old deep sea diver in my time but would never dream of judging other deep sea divers

You might have the germ of an idea for a TV programme there. It could be called, 'Davy Jones Locker', and people with no experience(one or two mortally afraid of water would add to the dramatic tension) would be trained to dive and recover items from the sea bed. ☺

Self-praise is no recommendation. What about folk who have been on the likes of cooking programmes and gone on to bigger and better things because their abilities have been appreciated by others?

people go in for the competitions because they want to, people watch the resulting programs because they want to....

People watch these type of shows for the Disasters not the Triumphs

Yes, I love Masterchef. Loads of the contestants have made a good living off the back of it.

course you don't Pasta,lol! never have you viewed someones offering thinking OMG that looks like a plate of sick I wonder if he/she will get any better... And of course people watch Hells Kitchen to watch the fledgling cooks improve week on week and become totally grateful to wor Gordon for verbally beating the sheet out of them.

WEE CALF, how would have felt if I had employed another diver because he was prepared to work fifty foot deeper than you so I believed he must be better diver than you? Would you prefer to be praised or criticised by experts in the field or by folk who judge you according to your smile and wit?
