Should we add the catch phrases once used by criminal celebrities, among the growing list of words that we can no longer say in case they cause offence?

I know. Crazy isn't it. I still love the music of Gary Glitter but daren't ask for it at a party or play it on a jukebox for fear of being called a paedophile!
I wouldn't have even known they were JS catchphrases.
ummmm...are you seriously saying that you have never heard of "nar then, nar then" ?

Not that I recall. Didn't listen to the radio when I was younger, don't remember him on TOTP's and never really watched any of his programmes.
I fail to see how your question follows from the article. Evans wasn't just using the occasional catchphrase, but doing an impersonation of a vile and most unpleasant criminal. This is IMO unacceptable on a supposed respectable radio station. The sad thing is how many listeners this shallow unprincipled coward has.
ridiculous

i notice it doesnt say how many listeners complained - perhaps because it was only a few...
none story if I ever read one. pathetic

the impersonation and catchphrases have been part of british life for 30 years - almost everyone over the age of 20 knows them - you cannot just pretend that he never existed.

i suppose it was a bit bad taste under the circumstances - but it wasnt as though he was supporting saville or doing anything crude - he was just saying catchphrases in a voice that must have been done thousands of times before.
Conscience money perhaps

Well, how's about that then?

Chris Evans being Chris Evans is not news. Don't think he sets out to cause controversy; it's just the way he is. His producer obviously thought that he was persisting too much, but once Evans is 'on a roll' he is hard to stop. Did anyone actually complain?

Like the idea of criminals having catchphrases: Jack the Ripper, "Nice to see you, to see you sliced" perhaps?
Good evans
Hows about that then
Sorry Fred - you beat me to it.

Certainly didn't find it offensive,
Don't think it was intended to be,
Just Evans being, well Evans as usual.
SHOCK HORROR !

Chris Evans being controversial !

What ever next..."STOP PRESS...Pope found to be Catholic ! "
what is more offensive is the need by the media to show the pictures of JS each time he is discussed, not necessary, I doubt most people will know what he looked like,
anneasquith...are you seriously suggesting the most people wouldn't know what JS looked like ? He was in the news all the time for nigh-on 50 years, long, long before he became famous for being a paedophile and general sex criminal.
