Just heard Paul McCartney and Neil Diamond sing, they were awful. They both have so much money, that they really should give up. Both were good in their time, but that is not now

Missed that but your post reminded me of Andy Williams (also, I think, on "Later") not so long ago, and he was dreadful, completely out of tune. These once-great singers should know when to shut up, as it can spoil your memories of how they sang once.

Yes lucca, I also saw that, I was actually embarrassed watching them tonight, both horribly out of tune. Oh, and that other time lord, Alice Cooper was in the audience, still complete with make-up.
Funny isn't it, no-one in the industry would say anything because of the icons they are, but if they were being heard for the first time now none of them would make it!!
I thought they were okay. I thought Elvis Costello's song was rather tuneless though - or rather he was singing a different tune to the one the band was playing, but Jules thought it was fantastic. I liked one of the other groups though- forgotten their name (Black Keys?) but they were on half way though
You should have listened to Brian Ferry on Titchmarsh Show, another one who should give up.

That is so sad, I was so in love with Brian Ferry, when I was a lot younger, please old men stop now, you don't need the money
Saw the advert for Bryan Ferry's album - it says something like "his best for 20 years" - hmmm I think it's his ONLY one for 20 years! Retire, please!
I saw Roxy Music in concert a few years ago and Bryan Ferry was a good as ever. I think he was always better in the band than on his own though. I`m getting his new album for christmas so I hope it isn`t complete crap!

pips 1, you are so right, if they turned up at the x factor, we would all be laughing, mind you after this year anything goes
Question Author
237, buying an album, is different to seeing someone live, and I mean live,x factor, take note . There is so much auto-tuning, that even I could sound great
Diamond wasn't too good, McCartney wasn't that bad, there aren't many younger singers who could sing Let Me Roll It. I've seen recent live shows and he was much better, so maybe he wasn't as warmed up as when he's touring.

I hate it when people say old performers should give up, they have enough money now, etc, it's so ignorant. A truly creative person can't curb that urge to sing/perform/etc, they carry on because they enjoy it, not because they want more money.

It was mentioned about Brian Ferry, and lo and behold he turned up on Loose Women, I thing all these old timers have got albums coming out, and I'm sorry backdrifter, I am an artist, not musically, but I have given up because I know that I am no longer good enough, it is not insulting, it is just telling the truth
