Yes absolutely

Try - Les visiteurs - 13th century French knights transported forwards in time - very funny even with subtitles
Yes... why not?
most foreign films have subtitles.

some are brilliant, some are crap. bit like films without subtitles isnit ?
The only one I've really watched that was sub titled was Passion of Christ. I sobbed...!!
I always say I hate subtitles but I have often got really into martial arts films when on tv.
Most films with subtitles are surprisingly easy to follow.
Mrs JtH would admit that she is not the fastest reader in the world but she has no problems at all with the Chinese historical/fantasy films of recent years.

Your answers are very encouraging. I have met a number of people who refuse to watch a film with subtitles (for no apparent reason other than probable laziness) and they have missed some great films IMHO. I have seen the English version of Les Visiteurs, called "just visiting". It is hilarious and I highly recommend it. Personally I am a great fan of French Comedies so I do watch subtitled films.
The quality of films from the European/Asian Film Industry far surpasses the Hollywood experience, so to shun sub-titled films is missing out on a significant number of excellent films.
My partner loves watching anything with subtitles. But then she's 65% deaf.
Yes,we have quite a few foreign films on DVD that are subtitled
Much better subtitling that the god awful practice of (usually very bad) dubbing!
Agree with Canary. I've been watching a lot of 'Tartan Asia Extreme' horror films recently... great films I would have missed out on if I wasn't willing to go with subtitles...
I'm a huge fan of Japanese horror films and would be more than happy to watch a film with subtitles if it sounded like something I would enjoy.
well I've watched some films that need subtitles because of the mumbling and sh1te sound production. But yes as a film buff I'd watch a recommended film and the the subtitles do have a benefit, you know what is being said!
I can thoroughly recommend CINEMA PARADISO
Might be 20 years old, but it's a quality Italian film
you must try this fantastic film:"Life is Wonderful".
One of the best films I've ever seen.

i remember watching a french film years ago, on late. It was so funny!
Years later The Lady in red came out, with gene wilder.
I realised it was the same story - I love wilder, but they had ruined it.
'The Lives of Others' which was on tv last week is one of the best films I have ever seen, would also recommend the usual favourites of Cinema Paradiso, Jean de Florette/Manon des Sources and Life is Beautiful.
It is also a very good way to brush up on your languges as reading the subtitles whilst you listen to the dialogue helps you understand.
Two good Films to watch are 'Black Book' and 'La Vie En Rose'' available from HMV
