I saw the end of University Challenge last night (Monday) and it went to a tie-break.

The question was about matrices/determinants and the student said "Negative" (in an odd Scottish accent) and Paxman said "Minus 2 - correct!".

Doesn't sound correct to me!

Or was I hearing things?

he said negative 2 and the answer was "minus 2" which is the same thing.

he said "negative two"

I bet the other team were gutted though, as they had 5 points deducted for answering wrong shortly before the end of the game.
