What does the 'T'' stand for (James T Kirk)?

I believe the 'T' was originally put in because it sounded good with the rest of the captain's name. Obviously people enquired as to the middle name, and i think I'm right in saying that William Shatner thought of Tiberius.

Tiberius is right and I actually know some sad **** that chanded his name legally to James Tiberius Kirk!!!!

Thanks everyone, I know a guy called James Kirk but he won't tell anyone his middle name, now I've got a good idea (assuming his parents were Star Trek fans)!
