What is Jack supposed to be taking? Hes going out clubbing etc so you'd expect him to be taking ecstacy, but hes acting like hes addicted to something so it can't be that, therefore would indicate heroin or something?!?!?

It is the usual soap opera drug that bear's little resemblance to anything available in real life and will always either put users into a coma or result in said user "freaking out" like when Martin Fowler took ecstasy in the launderette with Asif. An unusual side effect I think.
also they show it later on t.v.over there, so a lot of scenes get cut here. e.g. the taking of the drug (which most likely to be cocaine)

The BBC didn't cut the drugs storyline with Jack. Neighbours airs at 6:30pm in Australia on Network Ten. This means it carries a "G" rating. We never showed him taking drugs as that's not allowed for that timeslot.
