At the risk of sounding really thick. In Forest Gump his friend loses his legs and is in a wheelchair. In the scenes where he is in the wheelchair I can't see how the actor hid his legs and I have seen the actor in other films and he deifinitely has legs. How did they do it???

A computer brushed them out! He didn't have to tie them up behind his thigh like in the old days.

I thought so, it's just that i'd seen it in films before and you can definitely see that the actor's legs were tied up, but with this film it looks flawless. Thank you
Actually Jenky is quite incorrect. Gary Sinise who plays Lt Dan is what is known as a "method actor" and had his legs amputated from the knees down so dedicated was he to the role.

Beal is wron according to the trivia on this film on www.imdb.co.uk this is what happened

His lower legs were wrapped in a special blue fabric that allowed them to be optically removed from the film by computer

He also met the president - this wasn't real footage either!
How coincidental is that, that HOPALONG should know all about missing legs ha ha!!!!
for shazfish:  I am indeed a amputee
Apologies, that'll teach me to open my big mouth :-(
Actually, Gary Sinise did not have his leg taken off for filming then put back on, he did not have them CG-airbrushed and did not have to wear the blue wrap. The real reason why it looks real is that he is a very very very good actor indeed. Meryl Streep can act attractive, too.
