During the last series of the X-Files, there was a piece of music that they used over and over again that was very beautiful, sad, sort of classical-sounding (but done on synths) and it was lovely.
Any ideas what it was?

All of the instrumental-music songs on The X-Files were original pieces composed by Mark Snow especially for that programme.  So we know that it is by Mark Snow.  When you say "the last series" you must be referring to Series/Season 9. In that case, I don't know the title of your song for certain.  However, there was a song fitting your description that played often during Season *8*, and it was titled "Scully's Theme".  It was usually playing whenever Scully was on the screen by herself, the whole time she was pregnant.  Maybe they also used it in Series 9?  I sort-of stopped watching the show between series 8 and 9.
