Does it annoy you when those involved in programmes shorten the name .LikeBruce calls it strictly /Tarrant calls it millionaire those in Coronation Streeet call it the street Big Brother is BB (Bridgt Bardot will always be BB to me ) .It this to make it sound like its so important shortning its name persumes people will know what they are talking about .If the programme is call a particular name it should be referred to it as that name .

I suspect it's an attempt at branding. They'd like to see the situation where if anyone says 'millionaire' everyone will automatically think of their programme rather than of a person with a lot of money. And yes, they do run the risk that nobody will know what they're talking about
A lot of it is how the young people of today shorten their speech. Everything is in 'text-talk' these days.!
txt tlk....
xactly.
lol the irony is 'xactly' is nowadays spelt 'init'....
I don't call it 'The Street'.....................it's Corrie.

I know what you mean weecalf, it irritates me a bit too, especially 'Strictly' but that's probably 'cos I hate the programme anyway (never watched an entire one).
I confess to saying Corrie though & making up my own alternative titles. My brother-in-law made me laugh when he used to call Tenko 'Stinko' :o)
(not sure whether you're old enough to remember that?)
I think you have a point about some of the simplifications but it seems a bit strange to post the question on Media and TV.
It is about TV, so where else should it have been put?

The only bit of 'Strictly' I every enjoyed was John Sargeants wonderful bits, and I only saw those on other programmes. So you are not alone Robinia.

I think 'I'm a celebrity............................................ ' has a very good reason to be shortened - what a mouthful!! Never watch that either.

But I too admit to 'Corrie' (an affectionate nickname for an old friend!)
'John Sargeant's wonderful bits' Oh dear ........... Well you know what I mean :o(
sorrie & stenders
Is this a new cops and robbers show 4get?....................lol.
:-)
Glad it's not just me... "Strictly" and "only fools" particularly grate with me.
In a similar vein who can remember the DJ Peter Powell always referring to Spandau Ballet as 'Spans'? That really used to annoy me.
Hi Daniela,
I was being ironical. TV = television (an abreviation, which was what weecalf was complaining about)
ha ha meant corrie and stenders
