Were you thinkinh of an old show? because there was one created back in the 70s i think called the Gong Show or something where they used to get people on it, purely for the purpose the laugh at them.

No, I'm thinking of one that was on American TV last year. I'm assuming it was shown on UK TV too like everything seems to be these days. Very similiar to "American Idol" - "Pop Idol" with Simon Cowell but the people they promoted to the next round were terrible singers.
