Anyone any idea why Andrew Muir, who sang Imagine, had no choice but to sing it (according to him, the choice was out of his hands). I would have thought he would be allowed to sing what he wanted. It was mentioned twice, once in the show and then in the follow-up show but no-one said why.

it was shocking.I thought he was crap in the semis too
I was a bit puzzled too. Would love to know the answer.
sorry a pre baldy hair lipped paulo natini wannabee!!!!!
Me too. Hopefully we'll find out from the papers in due course, when they do their usual post-BGT interviews of the ones that didn't quite make it.
I think it was fixed and they wanted him to muck it up
It was something about it being on his list of songs he had submitted, but I didn't quite understand it either
I was also surprized when he said this.

Yet another example of how some of these shows are "fixed".

Get someone to sing a "bad" song then thats them out of the running (not saying he had a chance of winning but it does make you wonder what goes on behind the scenes.
I agree with vehelpfulguy. a song can make or break an artist. "Imagine" is a massive song, sacred in a way leave it the master John Lennon.
Same thing happened on I'd do anything big well known song for Jodie classic song for Jessie think the song won it for Jodie, Jessie would have suited the role of Nancy better!
no doubt happens a lot in these programmes and looks like Muir was about to open a can of worms and they tried to talk over him to keep him quiet in both shows. Must happen a lot in X factor with some of the awful songs they sing and the same old ones get trotted out time after time like Donna Summer's The Last Dance usually the death knell for the contestant. Similarly Dan who was an early favourite for X Factor but inexplicably sang Build Me Up Buttercup very early in the show. And all these people who sing a Whitney / Mariah classic just for Simon to be able to tell them it's a mistake - they're not Whitney/Mariah.

also heard that Per Diem (Liverpool lads/Tesco workers) had been told to sing The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face in the Friday night heat. They messed up big style and one of them looked like he was about to explode.
