recording Freeview - DTB channel isn't available

I have a Sony DVD/HD recorder with inbuilt Freeview receiver and a Sony Bravia TV with inbuilt Freeview receiver. Why then, do I receive an error message that I can't record Freeview channels? [I have recorded analogue channels successfully, so have a degree of confidence in the wiring]. Error message reads: "The DTB channel selected for timer recording does not exist"

All ideas very welcome, please!

Can I ask which Sony DVD recorder you have
If it is one with dual analogue and digital tuners have you wired both tuners as decribed in the setup instructions. You will need a cable from one tuner output to the other tuners' input.
Can you watch Freeview on the DVD recorder ? Switch the tv to dvd and see if you can get any Freeview channels. Have you scanned in the digital tv channels on the recorder?
Is it just one Freeview channel or all of them.
How did you set the timer recording was it by EPG or manually
Maybe the recorder is in conflict with the tv depending on which leads you have and where they're going.
I have a freeview recorder and freeview tv. I have connected them like this:
outside aerial to booster (I have poor reception),
from booster to aerial splitter.(some boosters have 2 out ports if you don't want a splitter)
splitter to tv and recorder.
Scart lead OUT of recorder to tv scart IN.
That's it. When I switch tv on it uses it's own freeview. If I want to use the recorder I simply switch it on (tv already switched on) and it comes on automatically on an AV channel. To scan/tune the tv freeview, have the recorder switched off. To scan/tune the recorder freeview switch it on and the av channel comes on, scan/tune the recorder freeview.
From there your recorder should function the way you wish.

Many thanks to both of you - much more helpful than the manual. I'm now sorted!
