am i really the only person in the uk to have NO interest whatsoever in the soaps ,the whole country seems to be divided into a corrie watcher or an eastender when i tell people i am neither ,i get the same reaction as though i 'd just told them i was a mass murderer or ate roast puppy dog on a sunday ,every tv mag /womens mag/newspaper i seem to pick up these days are all about soaps ,either plot lines or actors ,anyone else feel peeved by this or am i really standing alone on this??

Nope your not alone......I haven't watched a soap since Beth left Brookie...they are tedious at best and just downright stupid at most other times......don't anyone start with the "just like real llife" agruement...they are trash TV for the lowest common denominator......watch a documentary and learn something.
I too haven't watched a soap for over 5 years after being an avid Eastenders fan and I must say its benefited my life no end, come on soap addicts walk to the light save yourselves just think of better things to do you will feel happier I guarantee it!
You are not alone. Merry Christmas.
You're not alone! I don't watch sport either (as socially unacceptable as not watching soaps). I do, however, watch far too much SF...
The only soap I watch is Corra, which I view as light hearted relief sometimes brilliantly acted, although even they now feel the need to "address some issues."
i never watched them anyway, but as i only get home at about 10pm its irrelevant. Howeve I am on honeymoon abroad at the mo and mrsinci is sending panic strciken phonecalls home to find out about eastenders. Obviously am doing something wrong.......
I do watch them, and I am facinated by the fact that .... nothing happens! For all the posturing and breast-beating about the 'issues' it takes months for storylines to move on in any meaningful way. That means yards of dialogue about very little indeed, which makes for its own entertainment. The other thread is musical houses / jobs - everyone has a go at working in the pub / shop / living in every house around, when the misery incarnate suggests that anyone with any sense would move out! The fact is, the nation as a whole adore this entertainment, as is reflected by its media coverage, so you are definitely not alone, you are however, in a minority.
Nice one Glenis. I can see how people might want to watch a soap to follow it, but what bewilders me is how so many of these women's magazines - Take a Break, Chat, and I don't know what else - are almost entirely dedicated to soaps and gossip their characters have done/might do/will do. It's a script dammit! And haven't these people got anything better to do than sit around watching shouting matches? Isn't there enough misery already in their lives without having to watch it reproduced by overpaid and overidolised yet undertalented luvvies?
(Dismount from high horse) However, having said that, I do like The Archers.
I agree, it is all rather tedious. I used to watch Eastenders avidly but it really is quite ridiculous these days so i decided to get a life. In Scotland we have a new soap called 'River City' I love it! Sheildinsh is more dangerous than Brookside Close ever was, it's hilariously overacted and I have to keep a friend in London updated each week. Cope has just taking a delivery of calor gas canisters. all that gas in one place in Sheildinsh, I wonder what could possibly happen?
